Cisco Cordless Ip Phone

Jenny asks…

Which Cisco IP phone can I buy that is powered just off of the ethernet cable? Cordless would be nice also.

Also, can these be connected to any ethernet line to be able to make calls? It looks like they are self configuring. The whole point is being able to not pay for calls and have it self powering. If anyone has a better suggestion let me know!

Victoria answers:

Does it have to be Cisco?
Linksys is owned by Cisco.
Linksys has various options that will do what you are asking:

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1139414787856&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8785657386L03

The SPA-922 is PoE compatible, will function with an existing IP-PBX, or just configure for your preferred SIP-base VoIP provider.

Http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138743798705&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=9870587856B03

The WIP-300 is Wireless-G compatible, hand-held, and is also configurable with any SIP-based VoIP service:

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1139845857386&packedargs=site%3DUS&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=5738633418B09

Just remember that Linksys SIP-based VoIP devices, when behind a NAT-Router, or firewall, will need to have the firewall ports 5060-5063 UDP and RTP ports 16384-16482 UDP forwarded or triggered in order for VoIP to work reliably.

I configure my VoIP devices with BYOD (bring your own device), pay-as-you-go services like CallCentric and InPhonex. No contracts or commitments.

I personally use a Linksys PAP2T-NA user configurable (unlocked) ATA behind a Linksys WRT-54G NAT-Router. However, I would also recommend the Linksys SPA-2102 ATA. It is a NAT-Router and 2-line ATA in one box. A little simpler to configure, I believe.

Cordless Headset Phone suggestions?

I’m looking for suggestions for an IP phone.
Really what we want, the client want wireless headsets, and they don’t care what phone they have. All wireless headsets come with a lifter to take the phone off the hook. They don’t want that.

Is there any phones that offer an integration with a wireless headset? So that you press a button on the headset and it’ll answer a call?

Victoria answers:

Use Bluetooth devices.

However, I would check with the manufacturer of any selected device as your client may require too many devices in close proximity.

Theoretical limits may not apply once you actually try to use the product. Try to get some commitment from prospective suppliers, or your experiments may prove costly.

Mary asks…

What year were these phones invented?

I need to know the year of the inventions of ip phones, cordless ip phones, and touch screen phones.

Thomas asks…

I’m wanting to get skype as my house phone.. What should I do?

Ok, so i want to set up a cordless phone in my house on skype, but i don’t know what phone to get or if i should even get a voip phone or whether there is a better way to set up the phone such as a regular cordless phone through a router or something to that extent. What is my best choice as far as call quality? Also are there any services that are like skype but better?

Also, does anyone know if you can call skype phone to skype phone cordless to computer or vise versa for free on skype??

Thank you in advance!!

Victoria answers:

I like MagicJack better than Skype, because Skype has more fees than Magicjack does. MagicJack is a flat $19.95 per year, where Skype in and out both cost you, as well as having to spend on a per minute basis.

What I did, was I bought a MagicJack, and when it came, I plugged it into a USB port on my computer. Then, I took a phone cord and plugged it into the MagicJack, and the other end into the wall jack. Then, I went out to the gray phone company box on the side of my house and disconnected the wires that went into my house. Now all my phones work just like they did with the regular phone company, and I’m saving a $1000 per year on phone service.

There’s an article about this at http://calling-plans.com/voip/ and a video on Youtube showing how a guy runs all the phones in his house on Magicjack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4K7JxxtdAkc

Donald asks…

Voip connection phone setup?

I am using a Telbox to connect a cordless phone to Skype and also call landlines, it works ok but as Skype numbers start with a “+” and the phone does not have a “+” key I am unable to dial using the handset, as the phone is a few years old it does not have a sim card slot in the phone or base, does anyone have any ideas how I can save numbers that start with a “+” into the phone memory.
Regards.
Dave.
I would like to respond to Scott but there does not appear to an option.

Victoria answers:

Even old phones have a symbol character set. Hit the star button or the pound a few times when in programming mode. Also try the zero button. They are usually along that row.

EDIT: You click on the icon of the user and then go to their status. If they allow email, you would use that. I do, so, let’s hear it.

Mary asks…

Anyone who knows about skype phones?

This phone: http://shop.skype.com/intl/en-gb/phones/cordless-router/philips-voip-855/ says it needs Broadband internet connection with open port on router/modem.
Landline connection (to make landline calls in addition to Skype calls).

I don’t have an ethernet port in my room and the router is downstairs.. if i used this: http://www.bestofferbuy.com/Skylink-USB-Skype-VoIP-to-PSTN-RJ11-Phone-Adapter-p-30437.html?currency=GBP&utm_source=gbase&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=gbase_uk would it work? Thankyou.

Victoria answers:

I would just use an android or iphone and download skype from the market… Just sayin. Saves time and its free on the android market ….sooooo

Link: www.buy.com The Cisco SPA525G 5-Line IP Phone with Color Display is an excellent choice for businesses that require an enhanced user experience with a hosted IP telephony service, an IP private branch exchange (PBX), or a large-scale IP Centrex deployment. The SPA525G uses industry-leading SPA voice over IP (VoIP) technology from Cisco, with high-quality hardware providing additional connectivity via Bluetooth for headset connectivity, Power over Ethernet (PoE) (802.3af), or a Wireless-G client (802.11g).

mac-voip-chat.com – Mac-Gizmo tests out iPevo’s SO-20 Wireless Skype phone. A roaming Wi-Fi cordless VOIP hand set that’s letting me make and take calls in the cabin and out in the yard. With a special version of Skype built into the OS – my existing Skype contact list (already from my Apple Mac setup) is available once I connect to my router and log in. With low-cost pay-per-minute or flat-rate monthly calling plans, I can enjoy long distance at a fraction of my local telco rates. After puzzling through the all too brief Quick-Start guide, I eventually figured out how to connect to my Wi-Fi router, enter my Skype ID and password. Documentation is a little skimpy. But once set up – it’s pretty much set it and forget it simple to call direct or choose from my Skype contact list. That easy. PS I forgot to mention the Ipevo phone also has a standard headset jack on the side – and that NO software installation is needed – it’s all built into the phone.
